Home » Booking a Wheelchair Accessible Taxi in Dubai
Traveling around the city by using public transportation is usually the easiest (and cheapest) way to get around. Public transportation in Dubai is easily accessible if you’re using a wheelchair. If for some reason, you’d prefer to travel by taxi, you can also book a wheelchair accessible taxi. In this article, I’ll explain how you can book a wheelchair accessible taxi in Dubai.
“The only way to discover the limits of the possible is to go beyond them into the impossible.”
You can use the DTC (Dubai Taxi Corporation) app, which is available in the Play Store and in the Apple App Store. In order to book a taxi, you’ll need a local phone number from the United Arabic Emirates. At the airport, you can get a free SIM card that’ll give you a local phone number. If you’d preferably book your taxi by phone, you can call the Customer care center at 80088088.
After registration, you can choose the option to book the POD taxi. The POD taxi stands for People of Determination taxi and is completely wheelchair accessible. In these wheelchair accessible taxis, there’s space for one wheelchair, including the necessary safety belts to secure your wheelchair. There’s also space for up to five passengers and for some luggage.
You should book your taxi at least 40 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time, but I’d recommend you book it as early as possible.
If you want to use the wheelchair accessible taxi after your arrival at the Dubai International Airport (DXB), there’s no need to do a reservation. There are wheelchair accessible taxis at Terminals 1, 2, and 3 that can bring you to your destination. We had to wait for 10 to 15 minutes for an accessible van to bring us to our hotel.
Last but not least is the pricing of private transportation, which was extremely fair in my opinion.
The meter from the airport starts at AED 25, which is about 6 euros. Then the kilometer is calculated at AED 2.33 per kilometer, which is about 0.59 euros.
The traffic in Dubai around rush hour can be crazy, so taxi also uses different rates around rush hour.
If you need a taxi around rush hour (10PM – 6AM) you’ll have to pay 5.5 dirhams (about 1.40 euros) per kilometer. Otherwise, around the off-peak hours (6AM – 10PM) you’ll pay 5 dirhams (about 1.27 euros) per kilometer.
